Pre-school
Our Pre-school is managed by the school and is open between 8:30am and 3:15pm. We cater for children aged 3-4 years of age, offering funded sessions across the week for either 15 hours or 30 hours. Our sessions are delivered by experienced staff, who learn about children from a home visit. They use this information to plan engaging and exciting learning throughout their time in pre-school, with the aim to help children to become effective communicators and confident individuals before they transition to their reception place.

All families are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare, which are automatically allocated. Some families may also qualify for 30 hours of free childcare. You can check your eligibility here.
To support our families, we offer for these free hours to be taken in a block of 3 hours in either the morning or the afternoon, or as a block of 6 hours (“All Day Session”).
Once families receive their free‑hours allocation, they share it with our school. This allows families to book the sessions that work best for them — morning sessions, afternoon sessions, full‑day sessions, or a combination that suits their individual needs based on the availability of the Pre-school.
Please note that sessions are limited and allocated according to our availability and our admission arrangements.
Where we can, we also offer additional sessions for families to purchase! Again, these sessions are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Please see “Chargeable Sessions and Other Charges” section below for more information.

Lunchtimes at Pre-school
At Long Lawford Primary School and Pre-school, we are committed to helping foster a positive approach to health and nutrition from the very beginning of your child’s educational journey.
With the support of the latest nutrition guidance from the Department for Education, we have carefully crafted an easy policy to lunchtimes in Pre-school. This policy has been created with your child’s wellbeing at its heart and aims to support both families and staff with creating a consistent and nurturing environment that encourages healthy eating. It encompasses both school meals and packed lunches brought in from home. Click below to find out more.
Supporting children with intimate care needs
At our pre-school, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels safe, comfortable, and respected while in our care. Our Intimate Care Policy outlines the sensitive, hygienic, and professional procedures we follow to support children with toileting, changing, and personal hygiene. We treat every child with the utmost dignity, working closely with families to maintain consistency between home and pre-school. You can download and review our full policy document via the link below.
We also understand that toilet training is a major milestone that can sometimes bring challenges. To support you through this journey, we work in partnership with our local Children’s Centre. They offer fantastic, practical support for parents and carers, including:
Individualized toileting support and advice.
Targeted parent training sessions and workshops.
Resources to help build your child's independence and confidence.
Admission Enquiries
At Long Lawford Primary, we administer our own Pre-school Admissions. Applications for a place in our pre-school setting must be delivered directly to the school. Please see our Admissions Arrangements below.
Pre-school Curriculum
Our pre-school has a fantastic indoor provision within caterpillar classroom withing our Early Years department. It also has a vibrant outdoor learning space that all children access daily, including a forest school area and a trim trail. The children have access to practical, hands-on learning opportunities that spark imagination and curiosity.
