Who are FOLLS?
FOLLS (Friends of Long Lawford School) is the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) - an organisation of parents and staff. Our role is to encourage closer links between home and school.
We are probably best known for our fundraising work, but we have a useful social function too. Fundraising events provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together.
How are we organised?
FOLLS hold an annual general meeting, in conjunction with school staff every September at the start of the school year. At this meeting a committee is elected to run the PTA – our chair, a vice-chair, a treasurer, a secretary and other committee members.
We hold monthly meetings at The Caldecott Arms on Main Street in the village.
How is money raised?
Every year FOLLS raises thousands of pounds for the school. The majority of this is through events. We aim to hold one main event each school term:The Christmas fair in the winter, our ever popular Easter Bingo in the Spring and our “FOLLStival” Summer fair. Other FOLLS events include school uniform shops, discos & quizzes. We’re always looking for new fundraising ideas!
How is money spent?
Funds raised by FOLLS are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make learning more interesting and exciting. By far our biggest expenditure is providing a pantomime ticket for every child in the school. This alone cost over £3000 in 2015.
The committee also receives funding requests from the school for things such as playground equipment, replacement books & reading schemes, to name a few.
How can I be involved in FOLLS?
There are many different ways you can help FOLLS, whether you have lots of time to offer or not. Some roles are time-consuming, although rewarding. If you can’t commit to a big job, you could offer to help out less frequently (ie. manning a stall at the summer fair, baking for a cake sale). And you can always support our events by simply showing up!
